About the Artist

Hi! I'm Maverick Malone—poet, author and unearther of life (but I'm only leading with those because it's what fits on my banner). In actuality, I'm also a spoken word artist, conscious creator, publisher, mother, Gemini, manifestor, and part-time interstellar tourist/multidimensional being. Phew! Say that five times fast!

I believe words are powerful, potent spells. In 2022, I published my first poetry book, Pressed Petals, and my second, Hope and Other Beautiful Things, came soon after in spring of 2024. My third book, From August to Aquarius, will be released in August of 2026. In addition to writing, I also host the podcast Ink Speak, write for my Substack, Mentally I'm Here.

My Story

I like to joke that I've been writing since the womb. For as long as I can remember, I've been a writer. I've always been in love with language and it has saved my life on more than one occasion. But at some point, the everyday obligations of life, motherhood, and my then-marriage clouded my purpose, and I lost touch with those visceral parts that electrified me inside.

Thanks to quarantine and a spiritual awakening...

I unearthed those pieces and began churning out poem after poem in August of 2020. Little did I know at the time, I had begun compiling my first poetry collection, Pressed Petals, that pushed me to make the woolly mammoth decision to leave a 14 year relationship and ultimately changed the entire flight plan of my life. I knew that if I never left that marriage, I would never publish the book or chase my dreams. So I chose myself and never looked back.

That first collection propelled me through a transformative healing journey post-divorce and is a blindingly beautiful example of how writing pushed me towards a magical and authentic life and allowed me to bring forth my greatest creation yet—myself.

Why writing?

If life is the question, then for me, writing—poetry especially—is the natural response. Writing is how I discover, process and understand the world around me and I am enamored with the infinite creative potential writing offers. When we write, we can go anywhere and be anything. We can write ourselves into new worlds and entirely new states of being. We can use writing for healing trauma, connecting to ourselves and the natural world on a profound level, and even use words as a manifestation tool to call forth our biggest and boldest life.

To me, writing is magic.

A line may kiss your ears and it means one thing one day and something completely different the next. And sometimes, they don’t mean anything at all, just words that sound really good pressed together, and that’s ok. I don’t consider myself just a writer (we are never just anything, in fact). I’m a painter too. Each poem exists as its own work of art and words are just the medium I use. It’s all just painting with grammar—throwing a bunch of words at a page and seeing what sticks. Not everything I write has some profound message or even makes sense. Sometimes, the point is to simply foster the allowance for whatever strange thing wants to express itself on paper.

I want to illuminate the beauty and magic this world has to offer.

My intention is to inspire, to spark, to share,
to support, to connect, to teach.
To love, to love, to love.
