You don't need an editor or publisher.
You need a champion. You need a hype woman. You need someone who believes not only in your work, but YOU. You need someone who will clap from the back and hold up a sign that says, "Keep going!" You need someone who won't just underline and mark comments on your work with edits and suggestions but someone who will also mark things like "YES! THIS!" and who will scribble encouragement in the margins. You need someone who will treat your book with the same care she treats her own. You need someone who isn't afraid to do things differently within the writing world. You need someone who will inspire you to think outside the box in order to put your strongest work out into the world, to put your authenticity, your truth, YOURSELF confidently out into the world.
If you're looking to publish a book, especially if you are a first time author, you don't need an editor or generic publisher.
What you need—is a maverick.
In 2026, I launched Tempest Studio...
a creative studio housing my projects. As part of Tempest Studio, Tempest Press was born—the imprint where my books and aligned others can exist.
Tempest Press emerged from the frustration of a publishing industry that too often overlooks authors and offers little support (and sometimes not enough involvement) during the process. As an author myself, I've experienced the limited feedback, poor communication, and sheer overwhelm of the process as a whole. What I needed didn’t exist…so I created it.
Tempest Press is a women-owned indie publishing imprint built on equity, collaboration, and creative freedom that proudly prioritize and amplify voices from historically marginalized communities, including women, LGBTQIA+, and BIPOC creators. At Tempest, representation is a commitment. We center author vision, offer hands-on guidance through every step of the process, and believe that publishing should be empowering, not exhausting.
Whether you need full support from manuscript to cover design or just editing assistance, each experience is bespoke to the author, not the other way around. I don’t care about follower counts—I care about your voice.
At Tempest, I'm building a community. My goal is simple: to help more voices rise, especially those often unheard.
As Maya Angelou said, “There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”
I'd be honored to help you tell it.
Ok, Maverick, if that's even your real name. (Yes, it is). Why should it be you?
I specialize in editing and publishing poetry collections for emerging authors and also led editing efforts for Poetry Rise during 2024 and 2025, a platform dedicated to amplifying new poets. With over 700,000 followers, Poetry Rise is committed to increasing poets' visibility and making an impact through the power of words.
I believe that a book is a direct extension of the author and should be handled with the utmost care, but I also know firsthand how difficult the self-publishing process can be. Wanting to write a book is one thing —actually making it to the finish line is another. Anyone can hire an editor who will proofread and mark up your work, send it back, and then you never hear from them again.
I'm not interested in that.
I'm interested in building a relationship with my clients to help them become stronger, more evocative writers. I'm interested in making the publishing process feel less overwhelming. I'm interested in helping with the mental challenges like self-doubt and imposter syndrome that writing poses just as much as the actual words themselves. I'm interested in inspiring others to be their most authentic selves via their art. I'm interested in making magic. I'm interested in changing the world, one book at a time.

Testimonials Here's what authors I've worked with are saying.

Author of If Adam Picked the AppleAs a first-time author, I cannot overstate the value of Maverick’s editorial advice. Her insightful feedback highlighted areas for improvement, identifying inconsistencies and refining the language to achieve greater precision and impact. Author of Mud Water Will Rise
Maverick Malone isn't your typical editor offering mere grammar and spelling edits. Being a writer and poet herself, she knows how to walk the line of thoughtful feedback without taking away from the voice of the writers she offers her editing services to.
Maverick not only provides helpful feedback, suggestions, and a thorough proofread, but she also challenges writers to think outside the box and stretch their craft beyond what they could have imagined. I know this to be true for myself and others she's helped.
As I go through the process of republishing my first book, I couldn't think of a better editor to have by my side.
